Due to the runway up grading, Dubai Airport runway will be closed for the period May 1st to July 20th 2014.Dubai International airport will divert 8 airlines to Al-Makhtoum airport. During this up gradation period, number of flights will be decreased by 26%. As per project, Dubai International will not only be upgraded capacity wise but also to increase its security, runway lighting, safety, rapid exits and number of taxiways.
Around 2500 workers will be involved in the construction and rehabilitation of Dubai International. This project requires approximately 1050km of cables, drainage piping of 8.3 km, 1750 manholes, 11000 lighting equipments, and aggregates of 800000 tonnes.
To accommodate the passengers during these 80 days, a luxury shuttle service will be provided after every 30 minutes that will connect both the airports. Passengers can access Dubai World Center by any means of transport that include taxi, bus service linking to metro station of Ibn Battuta and private cars.
Dubai International closure could impact business and personal travellers. Residents around Dubai airport will be affected as well due to the heavy traffic related to the construction.
